AWWC February Meeting Report
Members of the Austin Woods & Waters Club gathered at the County Line on the Hill to enjoy some great fellowship, good food and conduct our annual officer transition and awards dinner. Dave McKelvey of Comfort provided an outstanding after dinner talk, exceeding the audiences expectations from the preview John Jefferson provided in the February Game Bag. Dave’s bird calls and animal sound imitations were spot on and enthralled and entertained all in attendance.
President Aaron Games turned over the reins to incoming President Doug DuBois, Jr. Following the presentation of a Browning Buckmaster pistol to Aaron, courtesy of Joe McBride, for his innovative leadership over the past year and a bouquet of flowers for Aaron’s wife Tiffany, Doug introduced new officers for 2010.

Following recognition of AWWC Huntmasters and volunteers for their work on Super Hunt VII with the Cave Creek Wildlife Management Association and with support from SCI-Austin, Doug moved on to our annual recognition awards.
For his many contributions to the club during 2009, including hosting the opening day dove hunt, hosting multiple youth hunts, serving as Social VP and contributing greatly to the success of the fall banquet, Steele Zinser was the recipient of the 2009 Carl Tagge Volunteer of the Year Award.
In recognition of eight plus years at the helm of the McBride Conservation Foundation, AWWC Past President (1998 – ’99) and Sportsman of the Year (2001), Joe Bob Everett was selected as a Trustee Emeritus for the Foundation.
The Jack Lyons Sportsman of the Year Award was presented to Camp Cook Patrick Mullins. As an archer, angler, teacher and outdoorsman, Patrick was recognized for his win-win attitude and many contributions to the club through many years of membership. Although recent health challenges have prevented his participation, much of that is behind him now following successful surgery in November. “You know it’s serious when you give up deer season to have surgery in November” Patrick related to the crowd. It was great to see him looking and sounding like his old self again!
